Queenstown, New Zealand

I’ve recently returned from a few days break with my family in Queenstown, just a short 3 hour direct flight from Sydney.
We stayed at the iconic Eichardts Hotel in one of the gorgeous and luxurious 2 bedroom apartments. We loved the intimate breakfast setting in the hotel. There will be a choice of having breakfast in the small bar area or the new restaurant when the adjacent new building is completed. Complimentary pre-dinner drinks in the Parlour each evening were a real highlight and there are always members of the Eichardts’ team to chat to.
There is so much to do in Queenstown for families, couples, the young and the young at heart. The weather can be unpredictable in any season though, so it pays to be flexible with your choice of activities, of which there is a huge array on offer. Hiking, biking, jet boating, zip lining, boat cruising, scenic air flights, golfing, fishing or skiing and snowboarding in winter – and many more. We took a scenic flight to Milford Sound arranged by Air Milford and then a 2 hour cruise which is a truly magnificent way to discover this amazing part of the world.
Zip Trekking from the top of Skyline Gondola hill through the forest canopy high above Queenstown was an adrenalin filled way to travel back down the mountain. It’s the world’s steepest zipline and the views of Queenstown, the lake and mountains are incredible.
If you are looking for a more relaxing activity, there are plenty of options to join a tour and visit a range of local small wineries. Alternatively you can arrange a private driver to take you if you prefer – and you can still wine taste without the worry! Hiring a car though is a great idea if you want get out and explore the stunning countryside around Queenstown or the local towns like Arrowtown.
Queenstown is a wonderful place for walking. A morning wander around the shores of Lake Wakatipu, through the gardens shows the lake in a completely different light to how you will see it in the afternoon. Lake Wakatipu is a constant back drop and also the hub of many activities. There are many walking paths, some short, some longer, for those wanting to explore the landscape on foot.
There really is something for everyone in Queenstown and always warm friendly New Zealand hospitality.
